Hello! My name is Bethany-Grace, and I’m the founder of The Gaza Giving Tree, a grassroots mutual aid project dedicated to amplifying the voices of Palestinian civilians in need, promoting their fundraisers and amplifying their voices to kind people across the internet who wish to help spread peace and hope. Our focus is solely on helping displaced people get donations to their campaigns, so they can afford basic necessities like food, clothing and medical care. We promote campaigns that have been vetted by other grassroots mutual aid organizations (such as Gaza Vetters and The Butterfly Effect Project), who have been working tirelessly to positively confirm the identities and stories of civilians in the Gaza Strip, many of whom are forced to rely on donations from strangers online to survive due to the severe destruction of infrastructure and lack of jobs in the area.

Through my work on The Gaza Giving Tree, I have had the privilege of meeting several incredible individuals, including Hossam Al-Quzzaz and his family. Hossam has been working tirelessly to support and guide his family through unimaginable hardship, and he is arguably one of the kindest and most selfless people I have ever met–always putting others before himself, and doing everything in his power to help those around him.

So when Hossam reached out to me about a family member of his in need of help—his wife’s brother, Muhammad—I was immediately on board to sponsor his campaign.

In Hossam’s words, “Muhammad is one of the kindest people you could ever meet in your life, and he truly deserves help.”

MUHAMMAD’S STORY

Muhammad Anwar Yahya Abu Zanad is a hardworking man who provides for his large family, including his wife Salsabil, their two small children Suha (3 years old) and Zuhair (1.5 years old), as well as his father Anwar, his mother Suha, his sisters Malak and Laila, and his younger brother Abdul Rahman. Before the war, Muhammad worked as a laborer for a contracting company. He had built a good life for his family, with a home that he took great pride in.

But when the war came, everything changed.

In early November 2023, Muhammad and his family were among the first to be forcibly displaced when their area was given an immediate evacuation order. They fled to the city of Rafah, where they found shelter in Al-Khwarizmi School. For six months, they lived in a makeshift tent in the schoolyard, struggling to survive. Then, when Rafah itself was ordered to evacuate, they had no choice but to return to their home in Khan Yunis—only to find it bombed and in ruins.

Despite the destruction, Muhammad has done everything he can to make the house livable again, but the damage is severe. There are wide gaps in the walls and roof, allowing animals, insects, and rats to enter. The family lives in constant discomfort and fear, with no means to properly rebuild.

Since the war began, Muhammad has been unable to find work, and his family now relies entirely on aid—aid that is becoming scarcer by the day due to border closures and skyrocketing prices. Providing food for his family is a daily struggle, especially for his young children, who need baby formula and nutritious meals. His parents also suffer from chronic health conditions—his father has high blood pressure, and his mother has diabetes—both requiring medication that is now almost impossible for most people to obtain due to the inflated prices of everything in the area.

Muhammad is doing his best every day to keep his family safe and alive. But with circumstances outside of his control making life more difficult to survive by the day, Muhammad cannot do it alone.

HOW YOUR DONATION CAN CHANGE THIS FAMILY’S LIFE

Every donation will go directly toward:

• Making essential repairs to Muhammad’s home, or helping the family to evacuate (depending on the circumstances, which are subject to change given the conflict in the area)

• Providing food for Muhammad’s family, and baby formula for his young child.

• Purchasing essential medication for Muhammad’s parents

• Ensuring the family can afford basic necessities like clean water, hygiene products, and clothing, when available.

BE THE LIGHT IN THEIR DARKNESS

Muhammad and his family are resilient, but they should not have to endure this suffering alone. Please consider donating what you can. Every dollar brings this family closer to security and stability. If you are unable to contribute financially, please share this campaign so that it can reach others who might be able to help

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and generosity. Let’s stand together as a human family, and show Muhammad and his family that they are not alone.

With gratitude,

Bethany-Grace

A NOTE ABOUT VETTING: Hossam Al-Quzzaz was originally vetted by Gaza Vetters (His campaign is #287 on their list of vetted campaigns). Since we first promoted his campaign, we have been in contact with Hossam and his family, who informed us if Muhammad and his family. Prior to making this campaign, Muhammad and his family sent us photos of their legal identification, and information about themselves and their situation. We are going to attempt to have other, more well known mutual aid organizations like Gaza Vetters vet them, as well, for added trust and transparency.
